I still really love this album.
Honesty and emotion overtake drawbacks in other places.
What’s funny is I don’t really think I got anywhere close to the aesthetic I originally sought out to capture. Going in I had MBV, Jeff Buckley and The Cure on repeat. I don’t think there was any chance I was ever gonna get close to that loll.
But in the end I made an album that means a lot to a relatively decent amount of people.
One night I was coming home from Eddie’s apartment after we had worked until 5 am. It was blue hour and I looked outside of the car on the freeway and how the palm trees looked against the blue was a very specific feeling. When I got back to my apartment I felt so euphoric from how good the sessions had been going I went on the roof at 6 and laid down listening to vans and lucky and as the blue got lighter I sat there and thought wow this is pretty good.
A million thank yous to Cat Heaven and everyone who listened for changing my life.
You can check out a list of films that inspired me while I was making it here.
